Richard Carpenter VIEW PROFILE


Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation will be 2–5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Moline American Legion Post 246 will conduct military rites. Memorials may be made to the Tampa Shriners Hospital.
Richard was born March 16, 1939, in Beardstown, Ill., the son of Noah Alvin and Betty Lou Carpenter. He married the former Patricia Peel, July 22, 1961, in Moline.
He was employed at Deere & Company as a computer programmer and inspector for 34 years, retiring in 1992.
Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Betson Chapter of Christ the King Church and the American Legion Post 246. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; sons, James (Tari) Carpenter, Tampa, and Robert (Joann) Carpenter, Tallahassee, Fla.; grandchildren, Evan, Benjamin, Molly, Abigail and Sophia; sisters, Della McKnelly, Springfield, Ill., and Judy Helm, Litchfield, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patricia and Barbara; and brothers, Buddy and Tom.
