Life Legacy

Harry L. Calhoun, 74, a resident of Bettendorf, died peacefully, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, surrounded by his family. Keeping with his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and the family held a private service. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Harry Louis Calhoun was born on May 8, 1940 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Louis B. and Lila (Kindred) Calhoun. He was united in marriage to Connie Sparbel on September 7, 1963 in Walcott. They have shared over 50 years of marriage together.
Harry was a mechanic for Iowa/Illinois Gas and Electric. He retired in 1995 after 35 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed meeting up with fellow retirees for cards on Thursday afternoons and breakfast on Friday mornings.
Harry enjoyed classic cars, owning many over the years. He was involved in the Q.C. Cruisers in its early stages. He was also an avid gun collector, enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds, and walking his black lab, Sam. He especially enjoyed the time he was around his grandchildren.

Harry is survived by his wife, Connie, son, Chris (Angela) Calhoun, daughter Kelli (Vern) Meyer, and grandchildren; Amber, Madison, Shelby, Lawson and Morgan, and great-grandchildren; Lexi and Liliana all of Bettendorf, mother-in-law, Betty Sparbel, Davenport; nephew, Steve Kibling; niece, Kat Griffith; and a brother-in-law Jack (Karen) Sparbel, Bettendorf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lila, a sister, Jackie, and his father-in-law,
